It may sound too good to be true, but there is a place where children and teens can pick up an instrument some for the first time, and three days later, perform live in concert to hits from their favorite artists and even produce a recording in a real sound studio.

Bach2Rock Bristow music school, is offering winter music camps for children and teens in an environment where they can start pursuing their dream of being a rock star, pop singer or music producer. Three-day winter camps run before and after Christmas, December 21-23 and December 28-30.

A music camp is an ideal place for children while on break from school. Campers do not need any prior musical experience to participate, and yet they will work with the professional musicians and form their very own bands and musical groups.

Parents can choose to enroll their children in either half-day or full-day sessions. Full-day students can enroll in two camps, whereas half-day students much choose one.

The four camps are Rock Band, B2R Glee Club, Recording Arts and for younger kids, Rock City World Tour.

Rock Band (Ages 7+) allows students to form a rock bands with peers of similar ages and experience levels, learning songs they love. On the last day of camp, students will record songs and perform them live for their parents and peers. Experienced musicians can also develop original material.

B2R Glee Club (Ages 7+) allows students to work with professional vocal coaches and culminates with a public performance and recording session.

Recording Arts: Pro Tools & Productions (Ages 12+) gives students hands-on experience recording musicians in a studio and learning the tricks of the trade while working on Pro Tools and Digidesign.

Rock City World Tour (Ages 4-7, half-day only) immerses children in a diverse musical experience while incorporating imagination, hands-on activities and story telling.

Half-day session, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or noon- 5 p.m., costs $50; a full day, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., costs $80.

While camps are organized in three-day clusters, Bach2Rock Bristow's Site Director Samir Moussa said he is always amazed to see what the students can accomplish in a short period of time. Even someone who has never tried an instrument before can “start playing an easy song right away,” Moussa said.

The Bach2Rock program begins with ice-breakers that get students to interact beyond their micro groups.

“Many strong relationships form at camp,” said Moussa.

For students who are already taking music lessons, the camps are also ideal. Students can improve upon their skills, or take the opportunity to dabble in something different such as vocal music or recording.

Bach2Rock will also hold one-day camps throughout the year when school is out of session. Winter day camps are scheduled for January 1, 2, 2, 18, 29; plus, February 1 and 15.

Spring Break Camp runs March 21-28, and one-day spring camps are scheduled for April 18 and May 30.

Bach2Rock offers private and group music lessons for adults, teens and children of all ages. They also classes for toddlers to promote musical and kinesthetic learning.

Bristow Beat readers can claim a free 30 minute music lesson by visiting the Bristow.Bach2Rock.com and entering code B2RBEAT when registering for a class. The free class can be applied to any class for children, toddlers or adults.
