Comics & Gaming on 7556 Gardner Park Drive in Gainesville is joining comic book stores across the nation in Free Comic Book Day, where participating comic book specialty shops give away comic books to customers May 4. This year, Comics & Gaming will host a block party at 10 a.m. complete with special sales, a moon bounce, and balloons for the kids and over 11,000 comic books to give away. According to store owner Thomas Chillemi "It's a great opportunity to introduce comic books to new readers, and to introduce our store to new customers." "This year’s offerings come from Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, IDW Publishing, WizKids Games, and dozens of other publishers,"  store manager Ed Alexander said.   "With over 50 different new titles to give away, there’s sure to be something here for everyone." Free comics will feature a wide variety of notable characters and properties such as Superman, The Avengers, Sesame Street, Star Wars, The Walking Dead, Spongebob, Mass Effect, and NBC’s Grimm, Alexander said. "Free Comic Book Day is an annual event sponsored by industry-leading comic book companies and by local comic book retailers around the world," he said. "Every year since 2002, Free Comic Book Day has been held to endorse literacy in the community, and to help promote awareness for locally-owned small businesses across the globe like Comics & Gaming in Gainesville." Comics & Gaming, a haven for comic book and gaming fans, opened in 2004. The store carries comic books from all publishers and gaming products from Magic the Gathering, HeroClix, Pokemon, Dungeons & Dragons, and others.
