Prince William Arts Council Launches New Website

The Prince William County Arts Council launched what Council President Sheyna Burt called “a reenergized website” at www.pwcartscouncil.org as a way to let citizens know what art and performance events are happening within the area. The website went live on February 24.

The Arts Council is a membership organization that serves the Greater Prince William Area, including Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.

The website was created to support the Arts Council’s goal to become the go-to resource for local arts by promoting and supporting local artists and arts organizations while enlightening and educating audiences about the arts in the Greater Prince William Area.

Not only does the site provide more in-depth information than the former site, it is interactive. Visitors can search a master calendar for area cultural events, explore a genre or research a specific artist or arts organization.

The site also highlights Arts Alive, a celebration of all arts, to be held at the Hylton Performing Arts Center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014. The event will be held rain or shine, and admission is free.

Other site highlights include a gallery and a rotating featured artist.

The Arts Council’s Marketing Committee, overseen by Beverly Hess, Executive Director of the Youth Orchestras of Prince William, worked with the firm Visual Flavors to design both the site and the new Arts Council logo that Burt said “drives the look, feel and function of the site.” The logo’s different colored leaves represent dance, literary arts, music, theater and the visual arts.

Burt said that the website is not yet the one-stop resource she wants it to be, but it is on its way. Over the next few months, she will be spreading the word about the website in the local art community, and teaching council members how to add their content to the page. In the meantime, she wants to advertise the site to residents and get them frequenting the site to see what events are happening in their neighborhood.

Questions about the website or the Arts Council should be directed to Sheyna Burt, Arts Council Chair, at snburt@burtlaw.co.
