It's almost spring. Oscar season is over, and there are few block-busters at the movies. Rather than heading to to Redbox, head out to your local performing arts centers to see a family production. This weekend there is no shortage of plays, orchestra concerts and art shows to choose from.

Pied Piper Theatre presents “Treasure Island” on Mar. 2 at 2 and 7 p.m. at Metz Middle School at 9550 Wellington Rd, Manassas. Come see the Center for the Arts children’s theater group perform a family-friendly production. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for children under 12.

Manassas Symphony Orchestra celebrates its Platinum Anniversary this weekend with a concert at the Hylton Performing Arts Center that includes a pair of thirds, in recognition of their third decade. See special guest Nathan Hess from Ithaca College. Enjoy Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, op. 37 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in Eb major. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors and educators and free for GMU students.

Rebecca Grahm Hyson, Art Teacher at Battlefield High School and adjunct Art Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University will have her paintings showcased at the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s Buchanan Partners Art Gallery, beginning Mar. 2.

Dance season is back “in swing” at the Center for the Arts. Take swing lessons this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Candy Factory in Old Town Manassas, 9419 Battle Street, then stay for a dance from 4-6 p.m.

In “Masked Marvels & Wondertales",Michael Cooper's performance ranges from the “madcap” to the “awe-inspiring” using his hand-made cloth masks to build a brilliant and magical adventure for the whole family at Hylton Performing Arts Center’s Merchant Hall at 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children.
