Patriot High School theatre students will perform a one-act, multi-cast version of “Twilight Los Angeles, 1992.” Written by Anna Deavere Smith, this play accounts the L.A. riots through first hand testimony provided by those who were most affected. The play explores avenues towards peace in community relations. Director Kathryn Facemire adds her own interpretation with tableau and dance numbers to punk rock and hip-hop songs detailing the riots.

Laser shows at the Hilton High School’s Planetarium runs every weekend in February. On Friday at 6 p.m., check out Laser County, then at 7:30 p.m. it’s Ipop featuring the biggest names in pop, including Justin Beiber, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. At 9 p.m., it’s Laser Pink Floyd. There is something for everyone, so come out for a night under the stars.

Feb. 16 at 11 a.m., the Hylton Performing Arts Center invites you to join the George Mason University Potomac Arts Academy and the School of Music to the celebration concert “A Tribute to The Dream.” The uplifting concert celebrates the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech through the music of Joseph Schwantner’s such as “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and “We are the Children. The concert features the Mason Wind Symphony, vocal students and Gospel Choir, plus members of The Zion Baptist Church Senior Choir and Herndon Elementary School Chorus. Tickets cost $10 for adults
/$5 for children and seniors. They are free for Mason students and staff. On Sunday the concert moves to the Center for the Arts in Fairfax.

Arlo Guthrie performs in Merchant Hall of the Hylton Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. He brings his blend of music and story-telling and celebrates the 100 year anniversary birthday of his father, singer/writer/activist Woody Guthrie. Arlo Guthrie is best known for his 1967 “Alice’s Restaurant” and other witty tunes that speak to a generation of American activists. Tickets range from $32-48. One free ticket is available with a Mason ID.

All Weekend:

Visit the last surviving African American schoolhouse in Prince William County. Lucasville School is a one-room schoolhouse on Godwin Dr. in Manassas. It was built to educate African American children after the civil-war. Plus, learn about newly freed slaves who built a community in Prince William.
