Caribou Coffee to Open Location at Promenade at Virginia Gateway

Anticipation continues to build for what will be a premier retail destination in Gainesville: The Promenade at Virginia Gateway.

While the center’s developer, the Peterson Companies, has already confirmed several tenants, Bristow Beat has learned that Caribou Coffee will open its second local store at the location.

“Caribou Coffee provides the highest quality handcrafted beverages, foods and coffee lifestyle items with a unique blend of expertise, fun and authentic human connection in a comfortable and welcoming coffeehouse environment,” the company said in a release.

No details have been released about the size and features of the new location. However, the Board of County Supervisors did not approve a plan to allow drive-thru access at their June 5, 2012 meeting.

According to Peterson Companies vice president Paul Weinschenk, a drive-thru component hindered Starbucks from locating to the site.

“Starbucks said ‘If you’d like us to be here, we need the ability to do something different’ and that difference is being able to offer a drive-thru service to their clientele,” he said at the meeting.

Caribou Coffee Company was founded 1992 and is the second largest company-operated premium coffeehouse operator in the United States. The company has 13 coffeehouses in Northern Virginia, including its popular Bristow location at 12713 Braemar Village Plaza.

“The Company’s coffeehouses aspire to be the community place loved by guests who are provided an extraordinary experience that makes their day better,” they said.
