Ryan Sloper is bringing an Outer Banks staple to the Bristow Center. He will open a Duck Donuts in the space previously occupied by Sweet Creations Frozen Yogurt. Sloper, a 10-year resident of Bristow, will transform the 2000 sq. ft. location into Bristow's first donut shop. "There's a void in the market," he said. "I definitely wanted to bring it to Bristow; it was timing." His wife Tamara's family has a home in the Outer Banks; whenever they visited, they would "spend hundreds" at the local Duck Donuts. Vacationers have raved about the donut shop's cake-based, made-to-order donuts. He said the Bristow Center offers a great location for community members to meet and have breakfast, following the closure of Peet's Coffee in Braemar Village Plaza last month. The owners of the franchise, Ryan and Tamara Sloper and Larry and Katie Scherer, plan on making the most of the space and will have plenty of room for meetings and events.

"Now, all have is Starbucks in a supermarket," he said. Following the obtaining of permits and the completion of construction, the Bristow Duck Donuts will open late spring/early summer 2015. The Duck Donuts chain, which launched  in 2007, has four stores in North Carolina (Carolla, Duck, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk) and two in Virginia (Virginia Beach and Richmond). Founders Russell A. DiGilio and Robin Griffith wanted to satisfy vacationing customers' desire for “home-grown," made-to-order donuts.
