Promenade Profiles: White House | Black Market Promotes Straight-Forward Fashion

Posted

“Promenade Profiles” is a series that will examine the restaurants and retailers that are planning to open locations in the Promenade at Virginia Gateway in the fall of 2013.

Along with several restaurants, the Perterson Companies also announced the signing of women’s specialty retailer White House | Black Market, which is a division of Chico's FAS, Inc. of Fort Meyers, Fla.

White House | Black Market is the result of a merging of two retail boutiques to feature clothing and accessories only in shades of white and black.

According to press materials, the concept was born in Baltimore, Md. in 1985.

“The White House opened its doors as a boutique carrying white and only white clothing and accessories for women. Continuing its focus on classic colors, the company opened a new concept called Black Market in 1995. Similar in its monochromatic theme, Black Market merchandises only in alluring shades of black,” the company said.

“Due to the success of each concept, the company focused its direction in 1997 and began combining both concepts under one roof.”

However, the company claims it is more than just about color.

“When you walk into a store, you immediately feel that you have entered into a very special place,” they said. “Our stores are filled with an array of beautiful clothing, lingerie, accessories, jewelry, and gifts.”

White House | Black Market currently operates 344 boutique and 21 outlet stores, publishes a catalog highlighting its latest fashions and conducts e-commerce at www.whbm.com. There are five other locations in Northern Virginia.
