Sweet Creations Provides Gifts for Youth For Tomorrow Residents

This holiday season, Sweet Creations Frozen Yogurt, located at Bristow Center, has teamed up with Youth for Tomorrow to provide Christmas presents to teenagers and children who may have otherwise not receive any.

“We are delighted partnering with Youth for Tomorrow in facilitating a happy Christmas morning for their students,” said owner/operator of Sweet Creations at Bristow Center, Debbie Bankert.

Youth for Tomorrow, located off Linton Hall Road in Bristow, is a not-for-profit organization that runs a residential school for adolescents in the D.C. Metro area in need of assistance. The school, founded by Joe Gibbs, promotes safety, self-reliance, self-discipline, intellectual motivation and moral integrity.

According to Bankert, the presents are mainly for the young men and women living on the Youth for Tomorrow campus. However, some gifts are for the babies born to the young mothers living at Youth for Tomorrow.

“The gifts requested are slippers sweaters, boots, jeans, gift cards ($25) and personal hygiene items,” said Bankert. “A wide variety of items and prices is included.”

The way it works is customers, who stop in to Sweet Creation, can pull a tag from the tree. The tag includes a Youth for Tomorrow student or child’s name and preferred gift item. They can then bring the tag to the register where the cashier will log the gift giver's name and phone number.

Customers should then buy the present described on the tag, wrap it and return it to the store for distribution to the children at Youth for Tomorrow within the next few days.

Bankert said working with Sweet Creations around Christmas time seemed like an obvious choice.

“Sweet Creation owners have a long history of working with youth, and we wanted to do something during the Christmas season that gave back to our community and was youth oriented. Youth for Tomorrow is located across the street from us, so it was the logical choice," she said.

Additionally, Bankert said that as a family owned and operated business, they wanted to do a good will even over the holidays that would include customer participation.

She has been happy to see that of the 30 gift tags originally on the tree, there are now only five left.

“Our goal is to have all 30 gift tags accounted for with gift,” she said.

Gifts were originally due to be back to Youth for Tomorrow Wednesday, Dec. 10, but with the snowy weather, Bankert said it is being extended a few days. This also provides time for the few gifts tags to be taken.

Bankert also wants costumers to know that during winter months, Sweet Creations offers plenty of warm treats besides their signature frozen yogurt and 60 plus toppings, including seasonal favorites like hot-spiced apple pie. These warm winter treats include coffee,  hot chocolate and sweet baked dessert treats.

“There are two local bakers we work with who provided baked goods that have been well received by the community,” she said.

Additionally, they are holding photo sessions with Sanat Claus. Customers can stop by with their children this Saturday from 12-5 p.m. and this Sunday from 3-5 p.m. to meet Santa and have their photo taken with him.

Santa said he has been arriving by train to the Manassas Christmas Parade for over 30-years, which is how he heard of Sweet Creations in Bristow and then, added the frozen yogurt shop to his busy holiday schedule.

Accompanying Santa at Sweet Creations is a local photographer, who is bringing with her a mobile printer so that folks can leave with their photos. The charge is only $6 for 4x6 photo, and with that comes a 20 percent discount on a cup of Sweet Creations’ FroYo.

Keep up with more events at Sweet Creation, including a book signing by a local children's author also on Sunday.
