Total Wine & More expects to open early in 2016.

Original Story:

Total Wine & More will take over the 18,000 square foot space formerly occupied by Golfsmith in Virginia Gateway in Gainesville.

The golf-themed retailer closed their location at 5105 Wellington Road last week after more than 2.5 years in the location.

Representatives of the company did not immediately respond to our request for information.

According to a spokesperson from the Peterson Companies, the developer of Virginia Gateway, they had known about Golfsmith’s plan to shut down the store for several months.

The Fairfax location will remain open.

Last month, Gainesville Golfsmith manager Bobby Dotson said the store did benefit from the Quicken Loans National Tour held in August at the Robert Trent Jones golf course.

Total Wine & More marks the fourth business to occupy the space. Besides Golfsmith, other businesses have included World Market and a seasonal Halloween store.

The family-owed, Maryland-based alcohol retailer has 116 stores in 16 states, including a store in Manassas.

The company claims to carry more than 8,000 different wines, over 2,500 brands of beer, and 3,000 different spirits in every price range.

"We’re excited to bring Total Wine to Virginia Gateway as it will be a nice complement to our current retailer mix," Peterson Companies Regional Marketing Director Joanna Caputi said.
