Winwood Children's Center Teams with Stuff! Consignment for Children's Consignment Sale

Winwood Children’s Center in Gainesville is teaming up with Stuff! Consignment to host a huge children’s consignment sale at Winwood on 7830 Old Linton Hall Road this weekend, Sept. 14-15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Gently-used clothes, toys, cribs, high chairs, shoes, car seats, holiday outfits, winter coats and boots will be sold at a discount from department store prices. Sunday, the items remaining will be sold at half off.

Parents, grandparents, family and friends interested in purchasing these items can visit Winwood Children’s Center. While they are there, they are invited to tour the facility and learn more about their children’s day care and preschool programs.

Pre-K teacher Melissa Clebenger said it is a great way to introduce the school to the community while helping out the community.

“I think (holding the consignment sale is about) getting the word out to encourage people to visit, like an open house,”  Clebenger said, “to come in and see what we’re about.”

One hundred percent of funds raised in the consignment sale will stay local, helping a local children’s advocacy group, Gainesville businesses and parents looking to resell the children’s items they no longer need.

“Everyone is making a little on the proceeds,” Clenbenger said.

Winwood Children's Center and Stuff! Consignment, which is tagging and logging the items for Winwood, each receives 20 percent of the proceeds, and another 50 percent goes directly back to the cosigner.

Additionally, 10 percent of the proceeds go toward the Greater Prince William CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). CASA is a nonprofit that helps provide abused or neglected children with court advocates who also watch to make sure the children remain safe and receive the help to overcome their traumas.

According to Clebenger, they have received an overwhelming amount of donations toward the consignment sale, enough to fill a moving pod plus several of their offices at Winwood.

However, Meighan O’Toole, owner of Stuff! Consignment at 7482 Limestone Road in Gainesville, said she would be able to tag more items for the consignment sale if they are brought to her no later than Thursday afternoon between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Items for consignment need to be in good condition, free of holes or stains. Toys should have all their pieces and batteries, be clean, presentable and in working order. All clothing should be on hangers and should be freshly laundered, non-wrinkled and neatly stacked.

They cannot not accept car seats over 5 years old due to safety concerns, and all items must meet state and federal regulations.

For O’Toole, working with Winwood is an opportunity to include children’s items in her consignment operation and to utilize space beyond her store location.

It also allows her to work with the community and help out children’s organizations.

“Yvonne (Bashaw, Director at Winwood) approached me and asked if we wanted to do a part for the consignment sale,” O’Toole said. “We wanted to do a community service.”

Readers are invited to spread and invite parents to visit the sale over the weekend at Winwood Children’s Center.
