Broad Run Running Trail to Extend to Route 28/ Glenkirk Road

Bristow runners may soon enjoy a better running experience along the Broad Run Trail as the trail improvements will lengthen and have widened the trail.

According to Brentsville Supervisor’s page, “The Broad Run Linear Trail is one of several trail projects being worked on by volunteers from Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition (PWTSC) with support from the Prince William County Parks Department.”

With the new additions, the trail, “will eventually run from behind the Target on Route 28 to Glenkirk Road near Lake Manassas, which is approximately 7.5 miles,” said the Brentsville District web page, meaning the PWTSC plans on extending the trail on both ends.

Currently, the trail  begins at Victory Elementary School and stays parallel with Sudley Manor Drive until changing direction near Runner Stone Place and the Braemar Parkway. This location is halfway between the Braemar and Braemar North Gate subdivisions behind residential streets in those communities.

From Braemar North Gate, the trail runs parallel to Linton Hall Road, intersecting Sudley Manor Drive near Dunbarton Drive. It continues along that path until Hunting Cove Place, where there is a parking lot.

Even before the trail is extended, local runners should experience a smoother, safer run than years prior. The trail now offers room for two runners/walkers or a space to use as a passing lane.

According to the Prince William Trails and Stream Coalition (pwtsc.org), trail improvements along the Broad Run Trail began in January of 2012. At this time, the PWTSC has widened all sections of the trail to four feet.

The PWTSC also installed the Broad Run Trail Bridge in September of 2012. The bridge is near Victory Elementary School and adjacent to the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia’s property.
