Bristow Cub Scouts Collect Supplies for Devastated Oklahoma Classrooms

Cub Scout Pack 1384, chartered by Cedar Point Elementary School in Bristow, is hosting a collection drive for the Moore, Okla. teachers who were affected by the tornadoes that destroyed their schools May 20.

“Plaza Towers and Briarwood Elementary Schools and Highland East Jr. High were affected,” Dee Teimouri said. “There are approximately 100 teachers whose classrooms were destroyed or no longer exist.”

Teimouri hopes to collect materials that would benefit the teachers, as students have already received an outpouring of school supplies.

“We spoke with Moore County Schools directly and the kids are covered, but teachers are in desperate need of classroom materials,” she said.

Pack 1384 is looking for classroom decorations, posters, small white boards, educational tools, educational games, flash cards, bins, dry erase markers, construction paper, hanging files and folders, pencils and pencil sharpeners. However, they cannot accept items considered hazardous such as glue, aerosol cans or hand sanitizer.

A collection box is located in the lobby of Cedar Point Elementary School for the community to drop off teaching supplies until the last week of school.

“This is a community drive, not just a school drive,” she said.

A local freight company will ship the donated items for free directly to the schools.

If residents would prefer to donate money, Teimouri suggests gift cards from Staples or Office Depot, which will be sent directly to the Moore County School District.
