DAY CARE INSPECTIONS: Victory Elementary SAC, Linton Hall School Receive Excellent Inspections

The Virginia Department of Social Services recently conducted two unannounced monitoring inspections at Bristow child care facilities, which yielded no violations.

Inspector Stephanie Reed credited Victory Elementary SAC Program's staff for their positive interactions with the children.

"Staff were observed interacting with children in a positive, respectful manner. Children were observed helping clean up centers and then sitting quietly for count and transition. A staff member was observed providing appropriate behavioral guidance," Reed wrote in her Sept. 24 report.

Inspector Linda Reynolds also observed Linton Hall Preschool and Extended Day Program, located at 9535 Linton Hall Road, Oct. 1.

Her comments included:

Unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted in the morning Preschool program. There were 75 children present with 14 staff. The inspection began at 9:40 and ended at 12:30. Children were observed having snack, participating in self chosen center activities, working on cutting skills and playing on the playground. The playground will soon be expanded. Reviewed 7 children's files - complete Reviewed 4 new staff files - complete Reviewed 8 medications - documentation is complete. Health and Fire Inspections are up to date as are Emergency escape drills.

The Virginia Department of Social Services inspects all licensed child-welfare agencies at least twice a year, with at least one unannounced inspection each year.

“In order to determine continued compliance with standards during the effective dates of the license, the department’s licensing representative will make announced and unannounced inspections of the facility or agency during the hours of its operation,” the agency states on their website. “The licensee is responsible for correcting any areas of noncompliance found during renewal or monitoring inspections.”

VDSS cautions that a compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility and online compliance reports do not include consideration that some information regarding “adverse actions” may be the subject of pending appeals.

According to the agency: “Through the administration of the licensing program, the Department of Social Services assumes responsibility to ensure that licensed facilities and agencies provide children and adults with at least a minimum level of care in accordance with regulations prescribed by the State Board of Social Services and Child Day-Care Council.”
