EXCLUSIVE: Candidates for Brentsville School Board Seat Introduced

Bristow Beat would like to introduce readers to the four individuals hoping to fill the Brentsville school board seat Gil Trenum temporarily vacated this September when he was called into active military duty for one year. The candidates are Shawn Brann, Douglas Hunter Porterfield, Christopher Park and Tara Ann Tedlock. JerMonica Boose-Davis recently resigned her application. As per the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Bristow Beat has acquired information on the candidates, which they submitted to Prince William County Schools in the form resumes and statements of intent. The candidates will introduce themselves to the public Wednesday night at a 7 p.m. Public Hearing at the Kelly Leadership Center before the regular meeting of the Prince William School Board. Residents are also invited to register ahead of time to speak for three minutes about their candidate of choice or to inform the board of their interests or concerns regarding the selection of the interim board member. School Board members will vote to select the new members at their Sept. 21 meeting. The following is an excerpt of the information each candidate provided about him or herself:   Shawn Brann Residence: Bristow Personal Statement: “I want to be a part of the Prince William County School Board for 2016-17 for the same reason I wanted to be a teacher: I believe I can make a difference. I’ve had the opportunity to work with individuals of many different backgrounds both on a professional and volunteer basis, and welcome the chance to exchange ideas for the purpose of working together for a common purpose. I was originally asked to serve by Mr. Trenum when he was informed of his deployment. I believe that the district should have representation during his absence and that representative should be someone who Mr. Trenum can work with and trusts." Volunteer/Community Service:: PTO V.P. at Nokesville Elementary School and member NES's Advisory Council, working to advise 6th grade students remain at the old school; Brentsville/Gainesville School Budget Committee. Professional Summary: 20+ years of experience in government property management, production and inventory control; strong working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations and General Dynamics Property Procedures; Active Secret Clearance. Responsibilities include: coordinating and analyzing contracts; procurements, accounting and revenue reports. I entered the U.S. Army at the age of 17, and I am currently an employee of the U.S. Census Bureau. I have dedicated my career to serving my community, and I would like to continue that...I am dedicated that my son and all of our community's children receive the education and services that will enable them to give back to their community as adults."
