The Virginia Theatre Association awarded the Gainesville Middle School's Advanced Drama students a gold trophy for their presentation of the comedy "Four Little Words" at the Association's Festival in Lynchburg on Nov. 10.
“This talented group of young actors exhibited their skills as an acting ensemble with great enthusiasm, talent and received high marks for their presentation," producer Stacey Pennebecker said.
A gold trophy is the highest honor a drama troupe can receive in the state-sponsored festival, which gave Virginia middle school students opportunities to present one-act plays. Drama groups were judged on the basis of their acting,costumes, sets, lighting, sound design, and adherence to the directions.
Gainesville Middle School’s Advanced Drama Club was the only group representing Prince William County. Gainesville Middle School has previously won a gold trophy, having previously earned silver trophies in 2010 and 11.
Gainesville's next drama presentation will be "Miracle on 34th Street” on Nov. 29 and 30 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Gainesville Middle School auditorium at 8001 Limestone Drive in Gainesville. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for students/seniors. Children under three will be admitted for free.
Audience members are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy to receive a $1 deduction from their admission ticket. All toys will be donated to charity.
This is the third year for the Gainesville Drama Club, having been founded in 2009 with the school's opening. It remains under the direction of drama teacher Barbara White with community member Stacey Pennebecker as its producer.
Recently, Gainesville Middle School announced its new status as a specialty magnet school for Arts and Sciences amongst Prince William Public Schools.
