Barring any objection from individual members, the Prince William County School Board is slated to approve the 2013-2014 school calendar at their Dec. 5 meeting.
According to the calendar, students return to school on Sept. 3, 2013 and the last day will be June. 17, 2014. Winter break will be Dec. 23- Jan. 1 and spring break is scheduled for April 14-21.
The school division calendar committee met twice to develop the calendar, per PWCS Regulation 261.1. An Election Day subcommittee also convened to discuss a board proposal to close schools for for staff and students for all elections, not just the presidential election.
Presentation materials stated, “the calendar committee considered the Election Day issues but recommended continuing with current practice for non‐presidential election years."
As per the regulation, the school will be closed for students on Nov. 5, 2013, but will be a designated teacher workday at middle and high schools and conference day at elementary schools.
“The calendar was reviewed by employee groups, organizations, and councils prior to being submitted for approval,” PWCS said.
