PWCS to Redeploy 19 Trailers to Schools Next Year

Posted

schoolbus"Learning cottages" or "trailer-style classrooms,"Prince William County Schools will install 19 additional units at area schools to meet the demand for more space for students next school year.

The school division will not purchase additional units, it will reshuffle the placement of existing portable facilities. Following the reorganization, 213 trailers will be stationed at schools.

"Growth in student enrollment and needs continue to outpace the ability to build or expand schools," a PWCS official posted on pwcs.edu. "The plans are part of a newly released proposal that also includes moving another 19 portables from current locations at schools where demand is easing to others where classrooms are badly needed."

According to the school division, the opening of Chris Yung Elementary School and school boundary adjustments will make 16 units available to be redeployed from Glenkirk, Sudley, Victory, West Gate, and Yorkshire Elementary Schools. Boundary changes will also eliminate the need for trailers at Freedom High School in Woodbridge.

"Portables offer the benefit of easy relocation to temporarily address overcrowding or special space demands until permanent space or other long-term solutions are available," PWCS said.

Schools that will receive additional trailers include:

  • Battlefield High School
  • Belmont Elementary School
  • Godwin Middle School
  • Graham Park Middle School
  • Lake Ridge Elementary School
  • Loch Lomond Elementary School
  • Minnieville Elementary School
  • Neabsco Elementary School
  • Osbourn Park High School

  • Rockledge Elementary School
  • Springwoods Elementary School
  • Stonewall Jackson High School
