School Division staff presented recommendations to the Prince William County School Board for the naming of the Devlin Road elementary school, which is scheduled to open in September 2015. According to Chairman At-Large Milt Johns the two names that received the most community support were Officer Chris Yung and Sen. Chuck Colgan. However,  Colgan, the Commonweath's longest serving senator, asked to be removed from consideration. A citizen-led movement to name the new school after fallen Officer Chris Yung gained significant momentum throughout the naming process. Yung died on New Year’s Eve Day 2012 while on duty as a motorcycle officer for the Prince William Police Department. Yung’s motorcycle collided with another motor vehicle that was turning into the Sowder Village Square shopping center on Nokesville Road. Yung was 34-years-old. Under School Board Policy 854, schools can be named for identifiable geographic locations; for living or deceased people, who have made local, state, or national service contributions or have historical significance. The process included two public community meetings. Jan. 12 (Victory Elementary) and Jan. 20 (Gainesville Middle School). The final selection of the name is the responsibility of the School Board; the Board will vote at their March 18 meeting.
The naming committee consisted of Milton Johns, Chairman At Large; Gil Trenum, Brentsville District; Alyson Satterwhite, Gainesville District; Beavers and Cline.
