EXPERIENCES: Chapel Springs Church Tackles New Year’s Resolutions with 'Keeping the Change'

Posted

keepthechangeAs many sit down to plan out their New Year’s Resolutions, the ministry team at Chapel Springs Church in Bristow hopes to assist the congregation in accomplishing those tasks with their sermon series, “Keeping the Change,” which will be held from Jan. 10 to Feb. 1.

“In short, we all have resolutions. Every year we go through the whole, ‘We are going to lose weight, change finances, do all different kinds of things.’ Two weeks later, we already forget. We want our congregation to keep that change,” Worship Creative Arts Pastor Joshua Wesley said. “We are talking about keeping the change we set out in the beginning of the year; things that you were made and put on earth to do, changes beyond ourselves.”

The first week in the series, Jan. 10 and 11, will be “The Truth About Change” and Lead Pastor Scott Leib will be speaking.

“Pastor Scott will be opening the series, laying it out, and giving us hope about change for those of us that have been struggling,” Wesley said.

Services in week two will talk about “The Path to Change,” and will be held Jan. 17 and 18. Pastor Wesley will be speaking during week three, Jan. 24 and 25, about “Overcoming Obstacles,” and will share a personal story that changed his life.

“I was previously 420 lbs and have struggled with my weight since early childhood. At the age of 27, I literally thought I was destined to die that way and carried the weight and fear until I was almost 31 when I had a God moment of realizing, ‘I’m not going to die this way,’” Wesley said, “That’s when the journey began.”

The last week in the series, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, Youth Pastor Kevin Hockenburry will be talking about “When Things Won’t Change,” and special guests Dr. Nick Tavani and his wife Donna will be sharing how their family copes with raising a child with special needs.

“When things won’t change, when you are in situations where you’ve lost a loved one or the divorce is final, he [Dr. Tavani] will be sharing from his heart the things he does, how God has brought him through and how to keep the change,” Pastor Wesley said.

With this series, the ministry team at Chapel Springs hopes to help people accomplish those things that they set out to do in the beginning of the year.

“I really hope people can look at the end of 2015 and see that they surpassed their expectations of the year and God get the glory for it,” Wesley said.

Chapel Springs services are held at the Bristow location every Saturday at 6pm and on Sundays at 9am and 10:45am. Services are also held at the Stafford location on Sundays at 10:30am. More information can be found on the Chapel Springs website at www.chapelsprings.org.
