One Life Fitness Gainesville Kids Club Extends Its Weekend Hours

Posted

Due to increased demand, One Life Fitness in Gainesville is extending their Kids Club hours on Saturdays and Sundays. Their new weekend hours are now 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

They are also opening up the Kids Club on Sunday afternoon, so all of their fit parents can come and take our their new Zumba class with Jose! The new Sunday afternoon Kids Club hours will be 4:45 – 6 p.m.

Shawn Lewis, General Manager of One Life Fitness Gainesville, said having a convenient place for children to stay while their parents work out is very important to their clients in and around Gainesville.

“We have a lot of young families in our community, and they need a place they can bring their kids where not only the adults can get a workout, but also where the kids are going to have a fun, safe place to play," Lewis said.

She explains that children as young at 3 months can attend the Kids Club for up to one hour. Children 6 months and older can stay for up to two hours. Generally, the majority of the Kids Club children are under the age of 10, and that age group is ideal for the kinds of entertainment they offer.

“We have lots of toys to play with. We also have a movie theatre and video games,” Lewis said. However, children can also use their time at Kids Club to sit and do their homework.

Additionally, the staff plans special seasonal events for the kids, such as Easter egg hunts and Halloween parties. Plus, One Life Fitness allows teens 13 years of age and older to work out on their gym floor.

With the growing popularity of the fitness club, Lewis saw that there was also growing demand for the Kids Club to be open longer.

“Our Kids Club members are growing, so we need to accommodate for that. We understand the needs of the gym change as we grow, so we’re ready to change in order to help with that,” Lewis said.

Most of all, she recognizes how important it is for busy parents to find time for their health.

“Many parents work sedentary jobs,” she said, explaining that a study by the Mayo Clinic found that working sedentary jobs increases the risk of death from cardiac disease from 125 percent. Looking at it that way, she said the gym is a necessity, a way for parents to be around to see their children grow up.
