NOVEC Offers to Dispose of Christmas Trees, Wreaths in Gainesville

Posted

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) customers can drop off their evergreen Christmas trees, holiday wreaths and green garland at NOVEC's tech center at 5399 Wellington Branch Road in Gainesville between now and Jan 11.

“Most people agree that it’s more fun to put up and decorate a Christmas tree than to take one down, said Junior Martin of NOVEC’s right-of-way department, “But cut trees and greens need to go before they become so dry that they become fire hazards.”

Because NOVEC wants to prevent home fires, they have established a Christmas tree and greenery drop off for their customers. NOVEC customers are advised to leave their greenery in the front parking lot of the tech center in the area designated by orange safety cones. However, all greenery must be free of all decorations, hooks, lights, strings, etc.

After collecting the trees and wreaths, NOVEC plans to recycle the wood. NOVEC tree crews will chop the greens into wood chips, which will then be delivered to interested customers at no charge when right-of-way crews are working in their neighborhoods.

Customers who are interested in the free wood-chip mulch should complete the request form at NOVEC's webpage

NOVEC customers interesting in acquiring more information about mulch or recycling holiday greens can contact NOVEC’s right-of-way department at 703-335-0500 or 1-888-335-0500 extension 1633 or 1661 or email novecrightofway@novec.com.
