Community Rallies to Replace Rooster

With the help and support of the community, Leanne Dronet of Bristow is determined to replace her 4-foot tall metal rooster that was ripped from its cement moorings July 27.

From social media campaigns, to a lemonade stand and an offer to host a benefit horse show, Dronet was not going to disappoint her friends and neighbors and deprive them of the beloved landmark.

"I never realized how big the rooster had gotten until he was stolen, and the comments and concern that I've heard from people in the community have been heartwarming," Dronet said.

Dronet and her two boys even launched The Nokesville Road Rooster page on Facebook to document her fundraising efforts.

"The fundraising information is shared there as well as the current amount that we have raised.  And because of how the community is responding, I decided to let people paint him once he is replaced," she said.

Through fundraising, she has currently raised $234.25. The funds she said will help make sure the installation will be more secure and she may even buy a second rooster.

"We would like to bring him back bigger and better.  We want to make sure that he is even more secure so he can't be stolen and maybe even give him a rooster friend to keep him company," she said.

Despite the loss of her property, she is grateful for the outpouring of community support, which she says ultimately validates her move from the city to her current home on Nokesville Road.

"Although we were really upset to see that someone stole and damaged our property, it has been so heartwarming to read and witness the community's support for the rooster," she said. "My boys would have never experienced these feelings of community concern and support if we still lived in the city, and it only re-confirms that our move to this area was a great choice.  I am so grateful to be living here." roksa.ch

Residents should go here to donate to the Replace the Nokesville Road Rooster fund.
