1,143 Novec Customers without Power Sunday Night

Posted

novecResidents in Linton Hall Road area were without power for just under two hours Sunday night due to equipment failure.

According to NOVEC spokesperson Priscilla Knight, the outage was attributed to an equipment failure that involved an underground cable.

Although the high temperatures has increased power consumption, NOVEC does not know if that was the cause.

"We’re investigating. We don’t know the cause, but the heat could have been a factor," Knight said.

She also is not sure if could happen again.

"We’re constantly doing system inspections and maintenance to prevent faults," she said.

With high heat and increased power demand, she recommends that NOVEC customers be proactive.

"We have plenty of power supply, but customers can help lower overall power costs by setting the thermostat at 76-78 degrees and running fans in occupied rooms to feel cooler," she said. "Customers can turn the thermostat up to around 82 degrees or higher when leaving home. When returning home, they should set it at 76-78 degrees."
