The inaugural run of the Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Half Marathon, Prince William's Fun Run Racing team's most ambitious race to date, will take place Sunday, Sept. 25 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow.

Fun Run Racing always delivers fun, family-friendly race experiences close to home in Prince William County. This time, participants should expect even more out of the Prince William Half Marathon: a scenic and serene running course coupled with a music-festival atmosphere.

The race start/finish is staged at Jiffy Lube Live: the premier live entertainment venue in Western Prince William County, which attracts top national musical entertainment. The location offers offers plenty of free, close parking and real bathroom facilities, but its real draw is the entertainment.

Friends and family are encouraged to hang out at the pavilion to enjoy continuous live music from local bands on the grand Jiffy Lube Live stage.

"Here runners will enjoy a race village atmosphere complete with live music, featuring several local bands in the open air amphitheater," said race organizer Ian Connor. "Friends and family can enjoy music while waiting for their racer to finish; racers, enjoy the concert immediately after you cross the finish line!"

Children can take part in free face-painting, and everyone can take internet-worthy photos with the LOVEly Virginia traveling "LOVEwork" sign.

Meanwhile, runners will experience a uniquely scenic, historic and speedy course they will want to revisit year after year. From Jiffy Lube Live, runners will make their way towards the Manassas National Battlefield Park where they will traverse a paved two to four-lane parkway entirely closed to traffic.

"Racers can enjoy the scenery as well as the historical monuments and battlefields, which are dedicated to the Civil War," Connor said. "The course is on the paved roads of the historic Manassas National Battlefield. The roads will be closed to traffic so you can enjoy the historic sites."

Runners can expect to make great times as much of the course is either flat or downhill. Around the halfway point, runners will loop around the New York Monuments against a backdrop of verdant, rolling hills. Next, runners will pass by the historic Dogan House, Unfinished Railroad and Brawner Farm House.

After taking in the sights of the battlefield, participants will exit via University Boulevard and head back to Jiffy Lube Live. Once back at the concert amphitheater, they can join in the race celebration at the Finish Line Festival, and indulge in food from local restaurants The Bone, Moe's Southwestern Grill or Duck Donuts.

Running amenities include a large spinning cannon medal, a men's or women's performance shirt, live runner tracking and a complimentary massage.

With such a large venue, the race can still accommodate hundreds more runners. Fun Run Racing requests that runners register by noon, Sept. 20.

Those intending to run the Prince William Half Marathon should be conditioned for long distance running.
