Prince William County Police announced that the 26-year-old Bristow* woman, who was shot in the upper body 5:35 p.m. Sunday in the 7300 block of Atlas Walk Way in Gainesville, has died from her injuries.

"The victim...was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead," police spokesperson Sgt. Jonathan Perok said. "Detectives from the Homicide Unit are continuing to investigate this case."

Police have made no arrests in the case.

"At this time, this shooting does not appear to be random," Perok said.

This is Prince William County’s 20th homicide for 2016.

Prince William County Police are investigating a shooting, which occurred 5:30 p.m. in a parking lot located at the 7300 block of Atlas Walk Way in Gainesville.

According to a police spokesperson, an adult female, who sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body, was flown to an area hospital.

Police are soliciting video footage of the incident from area businesses; the investigation is ongoing.

*In the first police press release, the victim was identified as a "Gainesville woman." That was subsequently changed as the woman was identified as a Bristow resident.
