The detours the Virginia Department of Transportation set up to accommodate the closing of the 132-year-old Aden Bridge for structural deterioration will impact Nokesville Day activities.
Since the detour directs traffic onto Fitzwater Drive, the event's organizers, the Nokesville-Bristow Ruritans, can not use it as their traditional parade route.
"With the closure of the Aden Road bridge, and Fitzwater Drive is the primary detour, we are not able to close the road for this year's Nokesville Day," a spokesperson posted on their webpage. Alternatively, the organization will utilize other resources to host the day's events. "We are moving the festivities to Brentsville High School and set up all of the vendors and food and events there at the school," they said. "We are still planning on doing a parade, and it may be on a smaller scale in terms of the distance; we may be able to march it between the two schools to keep tradition going." the public is allowed to park at Brentsville High School, The Nokesville School and along Fitzwater Drive. The Nokesville-Bristow Ruritans will announce final plans on Wednesday. "We apologize in advance such a short notice, but with the recent changes beyond our control, we are all working hard to make this a great event this weekend!," they said. Nokesville Day is Saturday, May 16, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
