police-sirensA horse barn at the 24000 block of James Monroe Highway, Route 15, in Aldie near the Prince William County line partially collapsed this afternoon.

According to Public Information Officer Laura Rinehart, Loundon County Fire & Rescue received a 911 call at 4: 15 p.m. at which time they sent over fire and rescue units to the scene.

“They had a large barn that was housing approximately 40 horses, and a section of the roof collapsed,” Rinehart said “The civilians were trying to get all of the horses out, and we assisted them.

No one was injured.

Fire and rescue crews remain on the scene to rescue one horse that is still trapped in the barn.

“One horse is blocked by some of the debris,” Rinehart said.

Crews are currently trying to use supports to stabilize the structure so handlers can access the animal.

"The other animals are safely at a riding arena or other safe location,” she said.

Loundoun Fire and Rescue units and one Fauquier County unit are on the scene; plows and a veterinarian are also on the scene.

Prince William County Police and Fire & Rescue units are also assisting, including Engine 15 Tanker 15 Engine 4 Rescue 4 and Collapse 4.

The part of the structure that collapsed was approximately 40 feet.
