Prince William County Schools detailed the extent of the injury to a student in this morning's accident between an Alvey Elementary School bus and a car.

It was reported that one of the students has an injured lip as a result of the accident.

"The student's lip was hit as the bus was jostled," said PWCS Spokesperson Irene Cromer. "The student has since been released from the ER and is reportedly fine."

Cromer also said paramedics examined two other students, who have since returned to school.

" are in class and doing fine," she said.

Original Story:

Emergency crews responded to a minor accident after a car hit Prince William County School bus number 355 that was transporting students to Alvey Elementary School in Haymarket, PWCS reported.

According to the Prince William County Public Schools Facebook page, “Some students complained of minor injuries, and two were transported to the hospital to be checked out.”

A PWCS social media spokesperson wrote that “injuries do not appear to be serious,” and that parents are being contacted directly.

Children who were not injured were transported to school via a second bus that came to pick up the students.

The post on the Facebook page was posted around 10 a.m. Since then, the school division has released no further updates, so it is unknown on which road the accident occurred, nor how many children were injured. Bristow Beat is trying to obtain more information at this time.

However, the communications department at PWCS may be overwhelmed this morning, due to this incident and additionally two “secure the building” incidents at Rockledge and Occoquan elementary schools, both in Occoquan, which have since been lifted.

Haymarket Morning Traffic

Morning traffic in Haymarket is a problem parents recognize. At last week’s boundary meeting for Haymarket Drive Elementary School, many parents complained that traffic in Haymarket is atrocious in the morning.

While Supervisor of Planning Dr. Matthew Cartlidge told parents there have not been incidents of school bus accidents along Old Carolina Road, which is planned to be the bus route for the new Haymarket Drive Elementary School, parents explained that cars do get into accidents trying to avoid school buses along that route.

Parents had said that traffic conditions were one of the main reasons they prefer their children remain at Tyler Elementary, especially those who live in neighborhoods, such as Parks of Piedmont, which is closer to Tyler than the new Haymarket Drive School.
