What is your position on the issue of housing illegal immigrants in Prince William County.

- Bristow Resident

Scott Jacobs

Illegal immigrants should not be housed in Prince William County. As a father of two young boys, my heart goes out to the displaced children, but we never should have allowed our borders to become so porous that we must now face this problem. If we continue to accept these undocumented immigrants into our communities, it will only encourage more to expect the same. The safety of our residents should come first and we have an obligation to look after our own poor, sick, and needy. There are a number of growing reports that, because of the sheer numbers of illegals crossing the border, medical screenings of unaccompanied alien children are not thoroughly comprehensive. As a result, these immigrants are arriving at destinations across the country with fevers, unknown viruses, and in some cases active drug-resistant Tuberculosis. This federal government has given no notice or even basic information about housing these immigrants in our county. Where is the communication from the federal government to our Board of County Supervisors? We must uphold the law of the land and as Supervisor Candland and Chairman Stewart stated, these unaccompanied alien children need to be reunited with their families in their native countries.

Our nation is known for its generosity and caring, I see wonderful examples of this in our community and it makes me proud and grateful to be a US citizen. We welcome people from all over the world who legally want to enjoy our liberties and the success of capitalism. However, for too long the federal government has not enforced immigration laws and they have utterly failed to secure our borders.  Furthermore, when our county government asked for deportation status of criminals here illegally, that information was refused. Understandably, people are frustrated that the federal government is not taking bold measures to resolve the significant problems caused by illegal immigration and the recent influx of people crossing the border. Lately we’ve learned that the well known and highly respected Youth for Tomorrow organization has been caught in the crossfire. Had the federal government secured our borders and enforced our laws, this would not have happened. I cannot support porous borders which risk the security of this nation and result in taxpayers funding the burden of illegal immigration. Citizens deserve a government they can trust. As your supervisor, I will commit to enforcing our laws, being open, transparent and accountable.
