Does Bristow need a fifth Asian-themed restaurant?

Benjin Yu, owner of Benjin's Asian Bistro, located in the new Bristow Commons, thinks his restaurant is different enough to stand out.

Yu, who worked for 13 years as a sushi chef in Manhattan, looks forward to delivering a unique menu to residents.

"We are trying to create a new trend; we brought the concept of from New York City," he said.

Asian fusion cuisine combines Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese, the various cuisines of different Asian countries.

"We bring the ingredients from the Eastern and Western cuisines and mix them together," he said.

However, he realizes that he must tweak his menu to fit local tastes.

"We had to adjust to fit in with the community. New York is New York and here is here," he said.

Yu said he chose to locate Benjin's Asian Bistro because he feels the people will have an open mind to a new concept.

He  feels that it's important to think from the customer's perspective, which is the reason he offers some options residents won't find at his local competition.

Yu and his staff strives to provide his customers the best that they can, especially offering the highest quality ingredients he can find. This includes using white meat in most chicken dishes, expensive Swift® beef and only fresh cut vegetables.

"We don't worry about the cost," he said. "I want to give people what they want; we value our customers."

While Yu is a partner is another restaurant in Alexandria, he is confident that the Bristow Commons shopping center is a good place to grow his business.
