BOCS Approves Speed Tables in Victory Lakes

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors unanimously approved the installation of speed tables on Edmonston Drive/State Route 3297 in Bristow Tuesday.

Speed tables are long, raised speed humps with a flat section in the middle and ramps on the ends.

The two speed tables will cost an estimated total of $10,000 to be funded by the Brentsville Magisterial District TRIP Holding Account.

Edmonston Drive is a secondary road off of Sudley Manor Drive in the Victory Lakes community. It is a residential road that also connects Sudley Manor Drive to University Boulevard in the direction of Gainesville, but does not currently connect to the other side of University Boulevard heading towards Manassas.

According to information provided by the BOCS, the Prince William County Department of Transportation received a resolution for the Victory Lakes Community Association that requested the “traffic calming measure” for their community. The resolution requested the Prince William BOCS formally authorize the DOT to install two speed tables, in the vicinity of 8954 Edmonston Drive and the other at 8900 Edmonston Drive.

From March 21 until April 4, 2012, the DOT posted a notice on location to solicit public comments. They received only five comments from citizens. All comments were in support of the speed tables.

On May 20, the Prince William BOCS then voted to advertise a public hearing on the speed tables, which was to be held on July 8.

At the July 8 public hearing, there were no citizen speakers, and the motion passed without discussion.
