Delegate Jackson Miller introduced during the 2015 session of the Virginia General Assembly Joint Resolution 539, which commends the Braemar Blasters Swim Team for winning the Prince William Swim League Blue Division Championship in 2014, taking the title from the Sudley Seahorses for the first time in 25 years.
"I was happy to recognize the Braemar Blasters achievement, Delegate Miller said. "It takes a lot of hard work to successfully break an ongoing wining streak from such a great program like the Sudley Seahorses."
The resolution passed the House and Senate. "I certainly feel it is quite an honor for the Braemar Blasters swim team to be recognized by Delegate Miller and the Virginia State Legislature," Blasters Coach Will Gideonse said. "The Blaster swimmers really showed a great deal of heart, and determination to finally achieve all that they did last summer. All the recognition and praise should be showered on the swimmers." To celebrate, the team is planning an event for Braemar residents 6 p.m., June 12 at the Iona Sound Pavilion; Delegate Miller will present the official copy of the resolution to the team. "It has been a true 'underdog' story for our team and for our community, Gideonse said "I feel that there is no other sport like community swim; we are families in the community---brothers, sisters, neighbors, classmates, boys and girls---of all ages working together for one common goal."
