There was an active shooter reported inside the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building  (Bldg. 197) at Washington Navy Yard in Washington D.C. at 8:20 a.m. Monday. This is still an "active" and "fluid" situation according to news reports.

Major media outlets were reporting as of 4:30 p.m. that Police Chief Cathy Lanier is now confirming there are at least 13 dead, including the shooter, 34-year-old Aaron Alexis.

These news outlets have previously reported there were three gunmen, but now they are saying there are likely two. While Alexis has been shot down by police, another may be on the loose.

He is described as a 5-foot 10-inch African American male in his 50s wearing olive green military style clothing.

According to ABC News, one of the injured men is a D.C. police officer who was shot in one or both legs. Another injured man is an officer at the Naval base.

The U.S. Navy confirms that people on the scene are being "sheltered in place." However, those who are severely injured have been air-lifted to area hospitals and people have been escorted out via public transportation buses.

Families can reunite at Nationals Park Parking Lot B, and family of Navy workers can call 202-433-6151 to get an update on their family members.

There are approximately 3,000 personnel who work at the Washington Navy Yard, some who likely live in the Prince William County area.

Police have closed the 11th Street Bridge, M. Street SE between 2nd and 4th Street SE due to the shooting. Local schools around the Navy Yard are on lockdown.

The U.S. Capitol Police have confirmed there is no immediate threat to security at the capitol.
