Bristow Farmers’ Market Closed Sunday, Leaves Bristow Commons

The Smart Markets Farmers' Market will be closed on Sunday, May 27, with the intention of reopening at a new location in the near future.

The weekly farmers’ market that moved to Bristow in December is on the move again.

“We regret to inform you that Smart Markets will no longer operate at Bristow Commons,” a representative from Bristow Commons said.

The market, which operated each Sunday in the parking lot of the Bristow Montessori School, has announced that they will be closed Sunday, May 27 and is seeking a new location in which to run the multi-vendor outdoor market.

According to a post to the Smart Markets’ Facebook page, “Due to unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, the market will be closed this weekend. We’ll update you soon with news of a new location.”

The market, owned and operated by Smart Markets has seen tremendous growth since their relocation to Bristow Commons on Devlin Road. However, Smart Markets Director Jean Janssen has stressed concern about the parking at the site.

“The parking issue at Bristow Commons had concerned me for some weeks—so much so that I reached out to another potential host on May 8 and received a very enthusiastic response,” Janssen said.

She explained that she has contacted a number of local organizations about locations for the farmers’ market. She is hopeful that she can keep it in Bristow.

“We do plan to stay in Bristow if someone will have us, and to settle into a place that will enable us to continue to grow,” she said.
