Police revealed that murder suspect Edward Hale, Jr., who died of self-inflicted wound, Monday, was detained by Prince William Police on Oct. 5 for assaulting Jessica Wilson at her Bristow home.

Hale is accused of murdering Wilson, 31, outside of her home on Oct. 19.

Officers responded to the 12700 block of Lednock Way in Braemar at 5 a.m. on Oct. 5  to investigate a domestic assault between the victim and Hale.

"Hale allegedly assaulted the victim and prevented her from calling police," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said.

Officers subsequently arrested Hale for domestic assault and battery and preventing the summoning of police.

"An emergency protective order (EPO) was requested by the officer; however, it was not issued by the magistrate," Perok said.

Following Hale's release from police custody a short time later, the Prince William County Police returned at 9:23 a.m. to Wilson's residence for a reported verbal dispute.

"No assault was reported and the parties agreed to separate," he said.

Wilson obtained an EPO Oct. 10, which expired 72 hours after it was issued. She did not obtain a longer protective order after the original one expired.

Acquaintances of Wilson said that Wilson and Hale have been together for approximately three years.

"There was no active protective order on file against Hale on the day of the murder on Oct. 19," Perok said.
