Bristow Teen Releases Single on iTunes

Thirteen-year-old rapper and musician Ryan Buck of Bristow proved age has nothing to do with talent as he shut down any opposition when he released his first single “Down in Flames” on iTunes.

Buck, who is currently an eighth grader at Gainesville Middle School, began playing music in school where he learned to play the tuba. He then broadened his instrumental skills by picking up a couple of other brass instruments and the electric keyboard. Today, Buck’s main music interest is rap.

Because of his age, Buck faced a lot of opposition when it came to producing music, as many were doubtful that he would succeed in the music industry. He did not let the negativity slow him down in the slightest and to their surprise, Buck dropped his first single on June 25.

“A lot of people told me I couldn’t make music because I was too young to be a competitor with all of the professionals,” Buck said. “I came across a company named TuneCore that distributed music and put it on all of these music markets. I was amazed and about a year later networking and making mistakes as well as meeting new people, I finally had my first song on iTunes.”

Any support that he lacked from the public, Buck found right at home.

“My family has always supported me with what I do,” he said.

Buck’s persistence and hard work paid off as people began to respond to his single.

“The night before my release date, it hit me that a song of my own would be on iTunes and all of these other music markets. I was a bit nervous to get the exposure, but I knew that I made the correct decision," he said. "I was scared that people would hate my song and I would get all of these awful reviews, but most of them were positive and the song sold well.”

After celebrating when his song finally reached iTunes, Buck began advertising his music online.

“When I found out that it was on iTunes I freaked out. I was ecstatic that it was right there in front of my face. I quickly started advertising and marketing my song on social media site that I could find," he said.

Buck hopes to continue making his own music, find a manager, and release more singles and albums.

“My future goals are simply to rap and produce music until I die. I would like to gain some more experience and knowledge with an understanding professional and hopefully make a decision," he said. "Otherwise, I just want to keep on releasing singles/albums and find a manager.”
