Republican Congressman Rob Wittman (VA 1st District, House of Representatives) visited the Cedar Point Elementary School polling precinct in Bristow at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday to reach out to voters in his campaign reelection.

Wittman said he wanted to go throughout the district, and wanted to make it out to Bristow “to meet folks and ask for their support.”

He said there are several reasons that voters should support him. “I’m focusing on several aspects,” he said, listing the economy and national defense as his primary concerns.

Wittman said, should he be reelected, he will work to develop America’s workforce by adopting legislation would decrease the size and scope of the federal government rather than adding to the national debt or deficit.

Wittman said he is also interested in setting aside the sequester. Rather than repealing it and returning spending to previous levels, he believes Congress needs to continue to find savings. However, he wants to

protect national defense from tax cuts.

“I’m very focused on national defense, especially in regards to ISIS,” he said.

Wittman spoke about the need to strengthen national borders for reasons of public health and homeland security.

“Foremost in people’s minds are national security and homeland security. That’s why I want to be able to go back [to Congress] and work on them,” he said.
