Crews Contain Fire at St. Benedict Monastery Grounds

Posted

Manassas Engine and Tower 501 responded Wednesday to a reported fire in the basement of a 2-story commercial building on the grounds of the St. Benedict Monastery.

Crews reported smoke showing at the scene when they arrived around 7 p.m. They quickly contained the fire after running lines and ladders to the building.

"All searches are negative and the fire was confined to the basement with the no extension into the rest of the building," a spokesman said.

No injuries were reported; officials have not released the extent of the damage.

CORRECTION: Earlier we had reported that the building was on the campus of the Linton Hall School, when it was in fact on the St. Benedict Monastery Grounds. We were working with the most current information we had received at the time, but have since received word from a representative for the monastery and school. While the grounds are adjacent, the fire has not affected the operation of Linton Hall School.
