DAY CARE INSPECTIONS: Sudley Manor KinderCare Teacher Fired for Roughly Handling Child

Posted

daycareinspectionslogoA teacher at KinderCare Learning Center at Sudley Manor was dismissed for roughly handling a child in her care late February.

According to the Department of Social Services Licensing Inspector Stephanie Reed's report, the incident was self-reported by the facility, which is located at 10496 Sudley Manor Drive in Manassas.

"Based on staff interviews and written statements from staff, it was determined that one staff used a forbidden action while disciplining a child in care by roughly handling the child," Reed wrote.

The report stated that a parent observed the teacher grab a two-year-old child by the shirt and force the child to sit on the floor Feb. 24 at approximately 5 p.m.

A KinderCare administrator said, following a suspension, the teacher was fired

"Teacher A was suspended as soon as the allegation was brought to our attention," she said. "Teachers were interviewed and none had witnessed anything inappropriate before, but Teacher A did admit she was too rough that one time and she greatly regretted it; as this is not the child guidance we allow, the teacher was terminated."

She said following the incident that the faculty received retraining on child guidance.

DSS did not cite KinderCare Learning Center at Sudley Manor for any violations on their unannounced renewal inspection Sept, 15, 2014,
