Desiderio Italian-American Grill, located at 7960 Crescent Park Drive in Gainesville, formally announced the restaurant's closing on Facebook Tuesday.

Co-owner Karen Marrero posted the following message to patrons:

We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last 5 and a half years, including our amazing staff…we have had the honor of meeting so many people through the restaurant we now call friends and family and couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you for trusting us with your rehearsals, communions, receptions, promotions, baptisms, holiday meals, anniversaries, and your every night family dinners! We loved every minute of it, but the time has come for us to close our doors. We wish you all a wonderful new year and please be sure to say hi when we see you out and about! EAT DRINK LOVE LAUGH

Karen and Rick Marrero attempted to capitalize on his Italian-American heritage to differentiate the upscale Italian restaurant from others in the area and served customers distinctive family recipes.

"Desiderio is one of the only full service restaurants in the area that actually makes it’s own mozzarella," they stated on Desiderio's webpage. "The menu is sprinkled with 'guarded' family recipes from ricotta cheesecake to Grandma Joanie’s meatballs." Reklama: Naujos statybos butai Klaipėdoje www.saulesbutai.eu

Calls to the Marrero's went unreturned.

Desiderio's final day of operation was Sunday.
