The Virginia Department of Transportation will postpone plans to shift traffic at the Route 29 and Linton Hall intersection in Gainesville from April to May to complete the project.

"Due to all those 'wintry mixes' the traffic shift will be in early to mid-May rather than late April," VDOT spokesperson Joan Morris said.

When the shift occurs, residents will not be able to make a left turn to southbound 29 from westbound Linton Hall Road.

"Traffic heading from Linton Hall to southbound 29 will be detoured for four weeks while crews complete construction of the ramp from Route 55 to southbound 29," Morris said.

VDOT will detour motorists to the University Drive overpass to Route 29 or drivers may choose to turn right onto northbound 29 and make a U-turn at Heathcote Boulevard, Brentsville District Supervisor Jeanine Lawson announced on her Facebook page.

Morris warned that motorists should expect daily lane closures as needed to complete the project.

"We will open the eastbound 66 ramp to southbound 29," Morris said. "The railroad crossing on Route 55 will be eliminated as will the signal at Linton Hall and 29; traffic will be shifted to the bridge."

Lawson and VDOT will hold a joint town hall meeting 7:30 p.m. April 9 at Gainesville Middle School to discuss the lane shift and detours.

VDOT expects the project to completed in the summer.
