The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close all lanes of I-66 in one direction several nights this week at the Catharpin Road overpass between Route 15 and Route 29 in Gainesville, weather permitting, so that crews can place beams for the new Catharpin overpass.

Single-lane closures on westbound I-66 began around 9 p.m. Monday, March 7. They will continue  Tuesday, March 8, and on eastbound I-66 around 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 10.

Intermittent total closures up to 20 minutes will begin around midnight each night. One lane will be reopened after each total closure, with all lanes reopened by 5 a.m.

Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes.

The new Catharpin Road overpass is part of the I-66 Widening Project, which will add one regular and one HOV lane in each direction from Route 29 in Gainesville to Route 15 in Haymarket. The $65 million project is scheduled for completion in August.
