Motorist Experience Major Delays on Route 29

You were warned. If you are planning on traveling on southbound Route 29 this weekend, prepare to sit in significant traffic.

Residents have reported delays as long as 20-25 minutes coming off Interstate 66W.

This weekend, southbound Route 29 in Gainesville is closed south of Linton Hall Road so the Virginia Department of Transportation can replace the bridge over North Fork Broad Run.

The closure will continue through Sunday afternoon.

However, VDOT reports the project will not becompleted by the end of the weekend.

“While the major replacement work will take place that weekend, drivers can expect some off-peak single-lane closures over the following weeks as crews complete the project,” VDOT Communications Manager Joan Morris said.
