Fire Causes $10,000 in Damages to Nokesville Home

fireandrescue2-240x180Fire and rescue units fought a structure fire in a single-family home in the 13400 block of Herring Lane in Nokesville the morning of March 8.

Upon arrival, firefighters were informed everyone was safely out of the home; no injuries were reported.

"Fire and rescue units made entry, locating the fire in a second floor bathroom," Communications Specialist Kim Y. Hylander said. "Firefighters proceeded to suppress and extinguish the fire while searching for further extension; no further extension was found."

Hylander said the fire originated in the attic above the bathroom; an inspector has determined the cause was accidental.

Red Cross assisted two adults and three children who were displaced by the fire.

According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, preliminary damages are estimated at $10,000.

A building official has posted the home unsafe.
