UPDATED: Flash Flood Warning for Northwestern Prince William County

Posted

UPDATE: A flash flood warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. Friday for the northwestern side of Prince William County.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), flash flooding is possible in northwestern Prince William County, northwestern Fairfax County and southeastern Loudoun County.

The NWS has highlighted certain areas where flash flooding is likely. They include Bull Run, Haymarket, Centreville, Chantilly, South Riding, Countryside, Dulles International Airport, Great Falls, Reston and Arcola. However, they stipulated that the flash flooding is “not limited” only to those areas.

Emergency management and trained spotters have already reported flash flooding on Braddock Road near Old Lead Road, National Drive near Airline Parkway and Old Ox Road near Rock Hill Road.

The Dopplar Radar has estimated between three to four inches of rain has already fallen since 10 p.m. and an additional 2 inches can be expected overnight.

The NWS cautions Northern Virginia residents to be “especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding." Additionally, they advise people caught in a flood zone to act quickly and go toward higher ground, especially if waters begin to rise.
