UPDATED: Flooding Causes Road Closures, Warning Extended

Posted

The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning until 5:15 p.m. in Prince William County.

The heavy rain appears to have hit hardest in Western Prince William causing road closures between Nokesville and Gainesville. Although most roads are reported to be open at this time, drivers should proceed with caution and leave themselves extra time this morning.

Prince William County Fire Units also successfully conducted several swift water rescues throughout the night.

“They responded to all calls in a swift but safe manner, and made all the rescues that were necessary, and those rescued patients were removed from vehicles in high waters were moved to safe grounds,” Northern Virginia Fire Buffs reported on their website.

As of 5 a.m. the Prince William Police were still receiving calls about high water along Linton Hall Road, so drivers may want to curtail their travels along that corridor or take an alternate route.

Residents are reporting via social media that Nokesville roads are also in bad shape, and parts of Sudley Manor Drive and Prince William Parkway had been shut down.

Other reported road closures include Aden Road and 619 near Bristow Road.

Prince William County Schools are open this morning, but some buses will be delayed, especially in the Brentsville District, and the school system is predicting that some buses will not be able to complete their routes.

The National Weather Service is projecting heavy rain again tonight with a one-inch accumulation in the area.
