Photo courtesy Prince William County Police.A 42-year-old woman of Centreville reported to police that Robert Darrell Umphreys, 54, of Gainesville strangled her in the Days Inn located at 7249 New Market Court in Manassas April 18.
The victim told police that Umphreys, whom she knew, came to her hotel room uninvited Saturday morning.
"During the encounter, the accused allegedly grabbed the victim around her neck and began to strangle her causing her to lose consciousness," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said. "When the victim woke, the accused was gone and police were contacted."
Perok said the victim received minor injuries in the assault.
Following an investigation, officers arrested Umphreys at his residence and charged him with strangulation.
The suspect's court date is May 20, 2015 and he is held without bond.
