Gainesville Supervisor Candland to Host Budget Town Hall Meeting

Supervisor Peter Candland (R) of the Gainesville District is inviting all citizens to attend a town hall meeting at Bull Run Middle School on April 16 at 7:30 p.m in the multipurpose room. This will be Candland's third town meeting, since taking office in Jan of this year. Instead of inviting government representatives, Candland wants to hear from community leaders on how the FY13 budget and tax increase will affect working families and retirees.

According to a Mar 28 press release from Reece Collins of Candland's office, Candland, who has consistently voted against a tax increase, wants to hear from his constituents and "share the proposed county budget that will raise average tax bills in the county."

Supervisor Candland voted against an advertised tax rate that would increase taxes on homeowners throughout the county. Since then, Collins states that he has flooded with support to keep average tax bills flat-lined at 2011 levels.

“At a time when families are struggling and gas prices are skyrocketing, it concerns me that the county is now asking citizens to dig deeper in their pockets simply to fund more government projects,” said Candland. Bull Run Middle School is located on 6308 Catharpin Road. Supervisor Candland will be available for interviews after the meeting.
