Police charged a 17-year-old female of Woodbridge with malicious wounding for allegedly stabbing a male 16-year-old Gainesville teen July 18.
According to the victim, he and the suspect, an acquaintance, were involved in an argument which escalated in a residence located in the 8300 block of Shimmering Rock Road.
"During the encounter, the accused retrieved a knife and cut the victim in the hand causing a severe laceration," police spokesman Officer Nathan Probus said. "The parties eventually separated and the victim contacted police."
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Prior to police arriving in the area, the suspect fled the scene.
Following the investigation, officers obtained warrants for the arrest of the accused, who was located and taken into police custody without incident at her residence in Woodbridge July 20.
Her court date is pending; she is held at the Juvenile Detention Center.
